How Do Heat Pump Tumble Dryers Work?
Heat pump system tumble dryers have been used in Switzerland and Germany for over a decade and the technology was designed to conserve energy.
Conventional tumble dryer models release hot air used to dry the clothes. The heat pump technology preserves the heat for reuse.
The hot air that passes through the dryer’s interior drum absorbs moisture from the clothing. The air goes through several filters to partially cool it once the moisture is removed, and this moisture is left in a water tank. While this is happening, the warm air is reheated and distributed back to the drum.
Because this dryer works uses a heat pump system and not a condenser, the air inside the dryer is kept at a warm temperature and by operating at a consistent temperature, helping lower the energy consumption. The hot air is reused, so the energy is kept in the machine and not extracted. This drastically reduces running costs.
